This
summer our No Choice Cafe founder / owner / CEO / Chairman, Milo
Binder has realized
a dream as he finally made the cover
of the national publication, Christian Profiteer. For those unfamiliar,
Christian Profiteer celebrates those who make a comfortable living
through Christ's name.
The
seven page article includes a full story, an interview, several
photos and two side-bars written by Milo himself. ("How to Make
Any Business a Tax-Exempt Church" and "Hiring Immigrants is the
Christian Way") The main story covers all of Mr. Binders endeavors
including the No Choice
Cafe,
his music management company - Christian United National Talent,
and even his wife's Christian real estate business
The
interview portion focuses primarily on Milo's role in the Phoenix
Christian music scene. The following is an excerpt:
CP:
How long have you been faithful?
Milo:
I was born again just last year but I have been a faithful
Christian for going on eight years now. I would have been born
again sooner but my schedule was so hectic with getting the restaurant
up and running that there just weren't enough hours in the day.
CP:
When did you start booking Christian bands?
Milo:
About ten years ago. I had been booking local cover bands into
the Phoenix bowling alley circuit when I got a call from a [local]
church group looking for help bringing in some big Christian acts
for their summer fair. They had loads of cash and they were not
afraid to spend it on quality entertainment.
CP:
So you were able to help?
Milo:
Help? I took over. The church leaders are wonderful people but
they didn't know thing one about breaking balls to get a decent
price. These Christian acts were all represented by serious agents
who would rape these unsuspecting church boards at every turn.
It was
impressive to watch them work.
CP:
So you acted as a buffer between the churches and the artist's
management?
Milo:
Exactly. Until three months later when I began to represent some
Christian artists of my own.
CP:
Who was your first Christian artist?
Milo:
Harlan Jenningsen. He had a good-sized hit with, "Jesus Guides
My Hand" before he got in trouble.
CP:
That was a while back. What exactly was he incarcerated for?
Milo:
He used to kick the holy shit out of his wife after every concert.
It was a real shame. After he was released he owed me a few more
dates but I refused to work with him once that tour completed.
CP:
Who is your current star?
Milo:
I'm working with a great band called The Christers. Very raw, lots
of street cred. Their new CD, "Crucifixerupper" will be out soon
locally and I have several Christian labels looking into them right
now. Holy Trinity Records has even shown some serious interest.
The
complete interview is posted in the No Choice main entrance showcase
as well as over the urinals in the Men's Room.
